Alessandra Ammara
Piano
Alessandra Ammara, born in Florence in 1972, began her concert career after winning prizes in several prestigious international competitions (G. B. Viotti in Vercelli, J. Iturbi in Valencia, Casagrande in Terni, M. Callas in Athens, E. Honens in Calgary). She has performed in major concert halls across Europe—including the Musikverein in Vienna, the Festspielhaus in Salzburg, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Musikhalle in Hamburg, the Sejong Arts Center in Seoul, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam—as well as in China, Hong Kong, the United States, Canada, South Africa, and Brazil, both as a soloist and with orchestras such as the Wiener Symphoniker, Berliner Symphoniker, RAI National Symphony Orchestra, I Pomeriggi Musicali, Calgary Philharmonic, and Cape Town Philharmonic, under conductors such as Fabio Luisi, Georg Pehlivanian, Roberto Minczuk, Bernard Labadie, and Lior Shambadal.
She has collaborated with prominent musicians such as Rocco Filippini, Anton Kuerti, Alban Gerhardt, the Takács Quartet, and the Sine Nomine Quartet. Since 1999, she has regularly performed in a piano duo with her husband, Roberto Prosseda. Together, they recorded the complete works for piano four hands by Mendelssohn and the two concertos for two pianos and orchestra by Mendelssohn (with the Residentie Orkest of The Hague, conducted by Jan Willem de Vriend) for the Decca label.
For the German label Arts, she has released several acclaimed recordings dedicated to Chopin (4 Ballades), Schumann (Carnaval, Davidsbündlertänze, Album for the Young), Scelsi (Preludes), and Ravel (Miroirs, Gaspard de la Nuit), all of which were awarded “Best of the Month” by various British and American music magazines.
Brilliant Classics has recently released her album dedicated to the piano music of Roffredo Caetani (a world premiere recording), as well as the first two volumes of the complete piano works of Debussy.
Her repertoire includes all of Chopin’s Études, Polonaises, Ballades, Mazurkas, and Preludes, along with numerous monographic programs devoted to Schumann, Scriabin, Fauré, Debussy, Ravel, and Busoni. She has recently turned her attention to rediscovering lesser-known composers such as Roslavets, Myaskovsky, and Giacinto Scelsi.
