Antonino Siringo

Born in Syracuse in 1978, Antonino Siringo graduated at the age of 19 from the Florence Conservatory, under the guidance of Lucia Passaglia, with top marks, honors, and honorable mention. Winners of numerous national and international piano competitions from the ages of 12 to 18, along with a career as a soloist and chamber musician, went hand in hand with meticulous study, allowing him to gain a profound understanding of 20th-century repertoire and develop a singular vision of interpretation. Between 1998 and 2000, he composed works for theater and ballet, collaborating with the Florence Dance Festival company led by Marga Nativo and Keith Ferrone.

Beginning in 2003, Antonino Siringo's interest in contemporary music and improvisation became a conscious choice.

He completed his classical training first by attending courses at the Italian Youth Orchestra in Fiesole, then by attending the Masterclasses at the Accademia Chigiana (where he earned the Diploma of Merit in Maestro J. Achucarro's class and was awarded a scholarship for two consecutive years). At the same time, he participated in the Siena Jazz Seminars, under the guidance of Stefano Battaglia, Franco D'Andrea, and Bruno Tommaso.

His involvement with contemporary music began in 2004, when, for the Estate Fiesolana, he performed the world premiere of Massimo Munari's piano concerto "Rumor Nero." In 2006 and 2007, with the O.G.I. Contemporary Ensemble, he took part in the Musica & Cultura concerts dedicated to the works of guest composers Francesconi, Arcà, Boccadoro, Guarnieri, Franceschini, and Portera, who later dedicated the piano piece Antonino's Schizophrenyc Monologue to him.

With the Rai National Symphony Orchestra of Turin, he collaborated on the recording of works by Salvatore Sciarrino and Alessandro Solbiati, as well as on numerous other productions of the same orchestra, in Italy and abroad, under the direction of L. Foster, R. De Burgos, M. Chung, D. Kawka, Asbury, G. Noseda, W. Marshall, M. Albrecht, W. Eddins, and many others.

In 2008, he recorded the soundtrack for Paolo Benvenuti's film "Puccini e la fanciulla," presented at the 65th Venice Film Festival.

In 2016, he recorded the soundtrack for the Algerian film "Augustine," presented at the 50th Carthage Film Festival, directed by Samir Seif, with music by Salim Dada.

Antonino Siringo's interest in contemporary music grew alongside his interest in improvisation and jazz, which he approached independently and self-taught after attending Siena Jazz courses. His first project, Lennie's Pennies, dedicated to Lennie Tristano, dates back to 2007. In 2009, he won the "Luca Flores" competition and performed at the Serravalle Jazz Festival, Padova Jazz Festival, Metastasio Jazz, and Musicus Concentus.

From 2011, and for the next three years, he collaborated with Florentine actress Maria Cassi as a pianist, composer, and arranger. In particular, the show "My Life with Men and Other Animals," directed by Peter Schneider, was widely performed in Italy and Europe. He recorded two albums with Maria Cassi and collaborated again in 2018 as an arranger and performer in the show "Cinemaria."

In 2015, the production of the show "La Follia" invited him, along with Mario Ancillotti and Claude Hauri, to perform alongside actress Maddalena Crippa in a reading dedicated to Alda Merini. The show is currently on tour.

Since 2010, his work on improvisation and collaborations have intensified: Marcello Magliocchi, Guy-Frank Pellerin, Jean-Michel Van Schouburg, Pat Moonchy, Roberto Del Piano, Nicola Guazzaloca, Matthias Boss, Maresuke Okamoto, Ares Tavolazzi, Nico Gori, Antonello Salis, and Cinzia Fiaschi, a painter with whom he has developed a project dedicated to instant composition.

That same year, he began his teaching career, working exclusively for the Fiesole School of Music, where he began teaching piano and score reading. In 2017, he opened the Department of Jazz Music and Improvisation Techniques.
